Mindfulness is a skill where we learn to be aware of our surroundings and of what we are doing. It encourages us to savor each moment and enjoy it. Today It is promoted as a secular religion and a technique to keep us calm in a hectic world. THANKFULNESS, on the other hand, connects us to a far higher reality - a whole new dimension. Mindfulness keeps us within the circuit of our own mind. It is psychological, but thankfulness brings us out of ourselves to acknowledge others. Thankfulness implies that there is someone to be thank. An atheist can be thankful .. but He cannot be cannot be thankful to God. The believer is not only grateful for the help he receives from others, but he is also aware of the help he receives from God, His Loving Heavenly Father, who keeps him alive and sustains him at every moment. The believer also recognizes the greatest gift - God giving us His Son to bear our sin, guilt, restore us to the His full blessing and to be our life giving companion forever.
He is aware that none of this is due to His own achievement it is all a gift from God. All he can do is to joyfully receive these countless gifts and blessings with thankfulness. The believer's lifestyle is one of constant thanksgiving to God for His goodness. This increases his awareness of God's reality and goodness. Thankfulness puts us in touch with the person who helps us and increases the bond between us. Everything we have and are comes from Him. All we can do is to acknowledge and thank Him. All real faith has at its foundation in thankfulness. This is not mere a thankfulness as a psychological attitude but a thankfulness that acknowledges and connects us directly to the reality of God our loving Father. "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. BE THANKFUL to Him, and bless His name." (Psalm 100.4) "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and BE THANKFUL." (Col. 3.15)
