WHERE ARE YOU LIVING?
The need for security is the most fundamental and basic need of everyone. But where can we find this security? A little child finds safety in the arms of its mother – in the care of someone greater than himself. Most people seek security in career, money, stable government – but these things can suddenly be disrupted by war, weather disruptions, political injustice, pandemics, economic collapses, personal crises and many other factors. Where then can we find true security and peace?
Jesus, the wisest man who ever lived, contradicted the assumptions of humanism and proclaimed that security was not to be found in our personal strengths but in the care of God our Father. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11.28) He invites all who listen to discover real security by building their lives, not on themselves, but on God’s faithfulness, love and promises and live in another realm - the realm of the Kingdom of God - the realm of His care and rule. This requires FAITH and TRUST. Today, in the era of Coronavirus, the world is being confronted once again by its shakiness and its inability to take care of itself. The security of the Kingdom of God has never been so relevant.
When we choose to return to the ownership of our Creator we are simultaneously transferred into another realm. In Christ we have been “conveyed” from the dominion of darkness to the dominion of light.
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.“ (Colossians 1.13 & 14)
We are transferred into the realm of the Father’s love and care - a place of true security. As believers our safety and freedom from fear is based on WHERE we are and WHO is taking care of us!
Recently we had a bible study under a tree in a friends garden. In the garden was a small pond where two ducklings were swimming. On the edge of the pond, two cats were crouching, with arched backs, staring at the ducklings, ready to pounce. We watched as the ducklings swam, daringly towards the cats, right up to the edge of the pond. They quacked at the cats, turned around and swam a few feet away before turning around again to taunt them. The ducklings seemed aware that they were in a dimension (water) where the cats could not touch them.
The devil is also like a roaring lion (big cat) trying to place fear on us, but we have been delivered from his territory. We are in another dimension – the Kingdom of God. He cannot touch us while we abide by faith in the PLACE of Father’s care. Therefore we can refuse to fear because we are in this place of security. Let us then know with certainty WHERE we live and WHOSE protection we are in!
