THE TRUE TIME OF THE YEAR OF JESUS' BIRTH
For centuries scholars have tried to calculate the exact time of the year of Jesus’ birth. Some have tried to calculate the date based on the sixth month of the pregnancy of Elizabeth. They have sought to calculate the time of the year when Zachariah the Father of John the Baptist who was to the priestly division of Abijah was ministering in the Temple. (Luke 1.5-13)
Others say that Jesus must have bene born during the Feast of Tabernacles because John writes “the word was made flesh and tabernacled among us.” ( John14_
These scholarly efforts have woven a tangled web of confusion. Perhaps the truth is hidden in plain sight. Luke clearly says that Mary became pregnant in the sixth month (Luke 1.26) The sixth month of the Hebrew Religious Calendar is Elul.
The phrase “in the sixth month also occurs in Ezekiel 8.1 “In the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house, with the elders of Judah sitting before me, the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me there.” (Ezekiel 8.1)
The sixth month mentioned in Ezekiel 8.1 and is agreed by scholars to be the month of Elul – the sixth month. Elul overlaps with our months of August and September
If commentator agree the sixth month in Ezekiel 8.1 as Elul why is it so hard to admit that the sixth month in Luke I is also Elul?
Jesus was conceived in the month of Elul and born nine months later between mid-May and mid-June.
